Premier League side Everton FC have progressed to the semi-finals of this season’s FA Cup after cruising past favourites Chelsea.

Romelu Lukaku provided a man-of-the-match performance to steer Everton past Chelsea in their FA Cup quarter final clash at the Goodison Park. The two sides played quite some careful football in the first half, with Diego Costa’s yellow card being the main highlight. The bullish Spaniard was given the first warning after committing a nasty foul against Everton’s Gareth Barry as the two sides went to the break without a goal.

In the second-half, former Chelsea man Lukaku scored the first goal in the 78th minute to send the Blues into panic mode. He then proved to be the chief tormentor of his former employees by netting the second four minutes later, which effectively bundled the English giants out of the FA Cup. This was his 119th career goal in all competitions and at just 22 years old, the Belgian could be destined for greateness.

With frustration kicking in, the controversial Diego Costa was handed the marching orders after appearing to bite Gareth Barry on the neck. Upon realizing the costly mistake, the 27-year-old hugged Barry but that gesture was not good enough to change the referee’s mind as he was awarded the second yellow card. The Toffees have now booked a date with Crystal Palace in the semi-finals of the competition.
