Rio Ferdinand believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic has what it takes to restore the winning mentality at Arsenal.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to sign PSG forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish star was involved in both goals for PSG during their Champions League fixture against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge last night.

Speaking to BT Sport, Rio said:

"Arsenal. He would give them that winning mentality. He can be the catalyst to winning things because that's what he does.’’

He added:

"This game was decided by clinical play and he [Ibrahimovic] was at the centre of that. He basically ended the tie. He showed today that even at 34, English clubs should be looking at him as a free transfer."

Meanwhile Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has revealed that the Gunners held a special player-only meeting to discuss their Premier League ambitions this season, following a series of disappointing results in the league. He hinted that the special meeting was beneficial to the squad as it instilled some positive mentality ahead of their remaining fixtures.

The England international said:

"We are not going to lie - we know as a unit it has been tough and we all had a good chat among us behind closed doors, without even any of coaches or the manager knowing about anything

“It is important that as a team we have got it in us.

"We have quite a lot of experienced players in the dressing room. It came from Petr [Cech], Mikel [Arteta], Per [Mertesacker] and Tomas [Rosicky].

“We have four good old heads there. I'd like to keep what was said among ourselves but it was very important. We have had a reaction from it.”

Theo has been relatively silent this season, despite netting a brace against Hull City in the FA Cup on Tuesday. Back in the Premier League, the 26-year-old has only scored four goals in 22 appearances for the Gunners, and registered two assists.
