Leo looks to stomp out rumors of a heated rivalry with the Real Madrid superstar.

The media and fans alike talk up the alleged rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronald; however, the Argentine superstar insists that there is no enmity between him and the Real Madrid ace as many like to believe.

According to Messi, his competition with the Real Madrid ace is nothing more than professionals striving to be the best for their clubs.

This comes after Ronaldo recently came under attack after allegedly criticizing his team-mates after the 1-0 Madrid derby defeat, though a closer look at the 31-year-old’s comments prove that his words were twisted.

Speaking to El Gráfico, the 28-year-old Blaugrana legend opened up about several topics relating to his professional career, and issues bordering on his personal life.

La Pulga has broken many records, scored hundreds of goals, won numerous amounts of individual prizes, but he claims that none of those matter as much as winning silverware for the Catalan giants.

"Records don't make you win titles,” Leo told the Argentine magazine.

On the subject of his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi said: "We're professionals, who defend our clubs' colours, and footballing rivals, but that's it. There has never been anything but respect."

Leo is undeniably a Barcelona legend; he is the all-time top scorer of both the club and La Liga, guiding the Catalan giants to success in almost every competition out there.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the Albiceleste captain when it comes to the national side, the 2008 Olympics gold medal being his only success with Argentina.

Leo, who is 8 goals away from breaking Gabriel Batistuta’s all-time goalscoring record, admitted that this failure weighs heavily on his heart, underlining their recent heartbreaks in the 2014 World Cup and 2015 Copa America finals.

"I get upset whenever we lose with Argentina because I know that we should have won. We did enough to win the World Cup and the Copa América."
