Bayer Leverkusen will try to finish what they started back in Lisbon to make it to the next round of the UEFA Europa League. Die Werkself managed to get away with a tight 1-0 win against the Green-and-Whites, but their chances of progression will depend on how much they learned from past mistakes, and of course, much will be determined by what their defense can do against a combative Portuguese squad.
Roger Schmidt's side managed to put up quite a good show against the Portugusese Lions. Karim Bellarabi's goal was enough to get Bayer the first-leg lead, and Sporting made things a lot easier for them after Ruben Semedo was sent off by picking up two yellow cards in less than 20 minutes.
Bayer Leverkusen will have Javier Hérnandez back to play the Europa League with them, after missing out the first leg of the series. "Chicharito" has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, and his contribution to the team's performance this year has been key to keep them fighting for UEFA Champions League spots in the Bundesliga.
The visitors, currently sitting atop of the Primeira Liga, truly believe in their chances to upset Die Werkself, as coach Jorge Jesús stated in the pre-match press conference.
"We'll take a close look at how our players have recovered, since we just played on Monday. We've had a few games against Bayer and we know them well, so, we are confident we can end up doing what they did back at José Alvalade Stadium," the coach stated.

This will be the fourth game in any European competition between these two teams. Bayer Leverkusen has won two of those games, including last week's victory, adding a draw to the mix back in the 2000-2001 Champions League Group stage. Sporting's last visit to BayArena ended up with a 3-2 win for Die Werkself.
