Manchester United are willing to offload their top striker Wayne Rooney to a Chinese Super League club, only under one condition.

Manchester Evening News reports that the Premier League giants have received a big-money bid for the England captain and are thinking about the possibility of releasing him. However, the publication adds that The Red Devils will only sell their star player if they make a marquee signing.

The 30-year-old is set to miss the Europa League action against Danish side Midtjylland at the MCH Arena on Thursday due to a knee injury that could keep him out of action for eight weeks.

If the deal goes through, Wazza could earn at least £500,000 a week at his new club, but Man United’s global sponsors insist that they have to sign another star player to continue marketing their products.

The newspaper reports that the former Everton man is the most marketable player at Old Trafford, something that makes him the right choice for the club’s partners. To have him replaced, the Red Devils need another star signing, and that is where the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic come into the picture.

With 244 goals to his name, Rooney needs to score six more goals to become the club’s all-time record top scorer, a title that is currently held by the legendary Sir Bobby Charlton.

Earlier last week, Ed Woodward acknowledged that the Chinese Super League is a possible market to sell some of their players. He was speaking during Man United’s quarterly conference call:

"So far, this is the biggest window in preparation for the next season, so I do think there'll be more activity in the summer, but it's very, very difficult to predict the impact that will have.

"If nothing else, it [Chinese Super League]'s another useful market if we're looking to sell any players."

The Chinese Super League has been luring top talents, most recently Ezequiel Lavezzi, who joined Hebei Fortune on a two year deal worth £23.5 million, and former Newcastle United star Obafemi Martins, who recently announced that he had joined Shanghai Shenhua, a club that boasts of the likes of former Chelsea man Demba Ba.
