According to Spanish publication Fichajes, coach Diego Simeone is looking to boost his squad ahead of the 2016/17 season and Juan Mata is among his first priorities. The former Chelsea man has also been linked with a move to La Liga to join Spanish giants Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid seem more interested in his signature, as reported by the Spanish publication.
The report further adds that the Rojiblancos are confident of securing a deal with the 27-year-old, although they are yet to agree on a preferred fee.

Meanwhile, the The Daily Mirror reports that Mata is also a top transfer target for at least three Chinese Super League clubs. The Spaniard left the Stamford Bridge to join Man United two years ago in a £37 million deal. With two years left to his contract at Old Trafford and no signs of an extension, the Chinese moneybags could be set to hijack Mata’s possible return to Spain by offering him an irresistible salary. The Chinese bigwigs are reportedly willing to give him a £170,000 a week pay rise, something that would be quite tempting for the midfield maestro.
The former Valencia man has made 26 appearances for The Red Devils this season and scored four goals.
