The talented midfielder believes his former team-mate still has a lot of football left in his tank, which could be put to good use by the MLS side.

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has no doubt in his mind: Chelsea must offer John Terry a new contract.

In an interview with ShortList Magazine, the New York City FC footballer can't believe the Blues will let "their best defender" leave the club.

"He's Mr Chelsea. Those are the sorts of players you need at the club. Of course I'm friends with John, but purely from a football perspective and from what he's done on the pitch, and as a starting player in all their big and important games when he's started them this season, I think he's been their best defender this year," Lampard stated.

Lampard and Terry won three Premier League trophies for the Blues, as well as one UEFA Champions League and a UEFA Europa League.

But even if he wants his friend to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Blues, Lampard would fight to bring the 35-yeard-old center back to play alongside him, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa in the MLS.

"He's the best defender I ever played with, quite comfortably. If Chelsea let him go and John's sitting there, I'll get his plane ticket and get him over here," Lampard added.

John Terry has only played for Chelsea in his 18-year-long career, with the exception of a short loan spell with Nottingham Forest back in the 1999-2000 campaign. His current deal with the club expires by the end of the season, and the center back has stated before he would choose to call it quits rather than joining other EPL team.
