Lionel Messi has hilariously reponded to rumors linking him with the world's most expensive car.

5-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has responded to rumors that he bought the most expensive car in the world. There have been rumors doing rounds on social media that the Argentine had bought the much-publicized car after beating his Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

The two players were rumoured to have engaged in a bidding war over the 1957 Ferrari Spider Scaglietti. The car allegedly goes for 32 million Euros and Spanish newspaper Sport recently reported that Leo was the new owner after beating Cristiano Ronaldo to the classy vintage machine. However, the paper quickly added that sources close to the player had initially denied that Messi was the new owner.

As the news of the expensive purchase continued to spread, the Argentine took to his Instagram account to dismiss the rumors on Thursday evening. He posted a photo of himself holding a toy car with the caption ''My new car.’’

Whether or not it was a way of driving attention away from the expensive machine that he has been linked with for the better part of this week, one thing for sure is that Leo has a strong sense of humor. Here is the Instagram photo: Messi jokes about his new car
