Diego Costa will feature for Chelsea against Newcastle this weekend whilst wearing a mask.

According to The Daily Mail, the former Atletico Madrid man picked up a nose injury while in training with Chelsea. The English newspaper further claims that the Spaniard’s nose was broken by a Chelsea academy player during the team’s training session. The 26-year-old will now become the third Chelsea player to wear a mask this season after Nemanja Matic (below) and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Some former and current Chelsea players to have worn a mask at the West London club include:

Petr Cech (Arsenal): He collided with his team-mate Ashley Cole and Yakubu of Blackburn Rovers back in 2011.

Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid): Suffered a broken nose against Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League back in 2013.

John Terry (Chelsea): Suffered a cheekbone injury against Fulham in 2007 after being elbowed by striker Clint Dempsey.

Ramires (Jiangsu Suning): Suffered a nose injury against Galatasaray in 2014 after an elbowing incident involving Burak Yilmaz in the Champions League.

Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea): The former Arsenal man was injured by Charlie Adam during their Premier League clash against Stoke City.

Demba Ba (Shanghai Shenhua): He picked up a facial injury from Fabricio Coloccini of Newcastle.

Nemanja Matic (Chelsea): He picked up a nose injury during Chelsea’s goalless draw with Tottenham.

Cesar Azpilcueta (Chelsea): The Spaniard was accidentally kicked in the face by Frazier Campbell of Crystal Palace. Matic wears a facial maskAzpilicueta (below) wears a facial mask after suffering a fractured noseAzpilicueta wears a facial mask after suffering a fractured noseSpeaking about the incident, the Blues coach said:

''Costa got his nose broken in training. It was one of the young academy players we had over.’’

The Dutchman even joked that Chelsea were a Zoro team. He was referring to a fictional character incepted in 1919 by writer Johnston McCulley, who was well-known for wearing a black mask over his eyes.

Hiddink added:

''He (Diego Costa) was very unlucky. He will return today because he had a mask put on. We are a Zorro team: Azpi, Matic, now Diego. He will do some light training this afternoon with the mask.’’
