England's captain could be lured away from the Red Devils by former coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, currently working for Shanghai SIPG.

Not only does Manchester United have to deal with rumors about their next coach, they also have to answer for those rumors about their top players.

During an interview with Swedish newspaper Expressen, former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson revealed he would love for Rooney to play in the Chinese Super League. In fact, the Swedish boss is starting to plot the move with his current employers, so that once Rooney becomes Manchester United's all-time top scorer, the English captain finds it suitable to join him in his Chinese adventure.

"Who doesn’t want Rooney? But I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to leave Manchester United. Not for this moment, anyway," Eriksson stated.

Sources close to Eriksson have claimed Chinese club Shanghai SIPG, currently coached by the Swede, would be willing to offer Rooney a staggering £500,000 a week for him to join them as soon as the current season ends.

In fact, the former England boss believes it's just a matter of time before all of football's big names play for Chinese teams.

"Sooner or later, we are going to see names like Ronaldo, Messi and Rooney in this league — players on this level,"the coach added.

The former Lazio & Manchester City boss, who also worked as Mexico's National Team coach in 2008, has been working in the Chinese Super League since 2013.
