El Tri kicks of their series of games for the year against a Senegalese side desperate to forget their elimination from the 2016 AFCON.

After winning their first two matches under coach Juan Carlos Osorio, Mexico's National Team will start preparing for a busy 2016 when they clash against Senegal at Marlins Park in Miami. Mexico's Colombian coach decided to call up a mix of players that have never played together, and even if that means fans don't have much to expect, the veteran manager may use this game to broaden his options for upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches and the 2016 Copa América Centenario.

On the other hand, Senegal's coach Aliou Cissé, who played a key role for the African outfit during their historic 2002 World Cup run, will use this game to take a look at some players from their domestic league, considering all their stars could not join them since this friendly match was not programmed on an International break.

Mexico's squad will include such players as goalkeeper Jesús Corona, who saw how his playing time with El Tri decreased since the 2014 World Cup, and will be trying to win back his spot guarding the net under coach Osorio. Up front, newcomers Eduardo Herrera and Jürgen Damm will be in charge of scoring for Mexico's team.

Head to head

These teams have only played two games between them at any level, and Mexico won both. The first one came prior to the 2010 World Cup, when El Tri defeated the Lions of Teranga 1-0. Their next meeting happened in the 2012 Summer Olympics, with Mexico claiming a spot in the semi-finals after defeating the Africans 4-2. Mexico saw a two-goal lead cancelled in five minutes, which sent the game to overtime. Finally, a couple of late goals provided Mexico with the win, which led to their eventual Gold Medal performance against Brazil.
