But he'll face competition, as another Premier League manager is in the running to replace Van Gaal next season.

More reports about Jose Mourinho’s speculated move to Manchester United will be music to the ears of those who wish to see Louis Van Gaal replaced.

And although the Special One remains tight-lipped about the rumors linking him with the Old Trafford managerial seat, sources close to Mourinho claim (as per The Mirror) that he is confident that he’ll be Man United’s manager next season.

Jose was recently drilled last week over the Red Devils position by Paul Kelso of Sky News, but the former Real Madrid man refused to indulge any question.

However, although the 53-year-old is confident over the Man United job, British tabloid The Sun report that he is not alone in the running to replace under fire Van Gaal, with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino also being eyed by the Red Devils.

Nonetheless, Mourinho’s experience at the top level and his impressive track record of delivering silverware could put him ahead of the Spurs manager.

Jose recently revealed to GQ of his desire to remain in England despite being sacked for the 2nd time in that country, telling the magazine:

"To be fully happy I need everything, so I go back to football. I think it’s my natural habitat. I have worked since I can remember, and as a manager since 2000. For sure, I will be back soon.

"At this moment I don’t have a job, and I don’t know where football will take me, because in football you never know. But for sure — for sure, for sure — as a family, our home will still be England."

Although confirmation over Mourinho's alleged Man United deal won't be expected soon, it looks inevitable that the 20-time Premier League champions will cut ties with Van Gaal once the season ends.

With the club in fifth spot and trailing fourth-placed Man City, pressure continues to mount on the former Netherlands boss, as witnessed in his recent outburst when asked about the Mourinho rumors. Watch in the video below.
