The Red Devils threw away a 1-0 lead in injury time, but the Spaniard is adamant that Sunday’s display proves there’s still style in their play.

Manchester United have been accused of playing unattractive football several times since Louis Van Gaal’s takeover last season (hence the cries for his sacking), with legends Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes labeling the Red Devils as “boring” and “dull”.

However, Spanish playmaker Juan Mata has now hit out at these claims, insisting that Sunday’s draw at Chelsea proves that there is style in the 20-time league champions’ play.

Man United locked horns with the reigning English Premier League champions this weekend, but blew an opportunity of grabbing a precious away victory after throwing away a 1-0 lead in injury time.

Nonetheless, Mata has cited the club’s impressive form as of late – one defeat in their last nine games – as proof that the club’s confidence and groove has returned.

“We're playing a lot better now. The team spirit is good and as a collective group we're doing well," Mata wrote on his blog in the club's website.

“When you win and when you play good football, confidence grows. I think we're showing now that we can play a high level of football and can play attractive, offensive football.

“That's what we're trying to do - that's what the fans want to see, so we try our best in every game. I think the last three or four games we've played really well.”

The cloud of uncertainty over Man United and their Dutch tactician’s future has not yet been washed away; as speculation over Jose Mourinho reported Old Trafford arrival continue to dominate the news, much to Van Gaal’s disliking.

Furthermore, in spite of their recent form, doubts still remain over the Red Devils’ Champions League hopes, as they are five points adrift of fourth-placed Man City.

With 13 games yet to be played, Rooney and Co. still hold a great chance of booking their spot in Europe’s top-tier club competition for next season.
