Plus, El Confidencial claim that the Dutchman's replacement has already signed an agreement with the Red Devils.

Manchester United may have won 6 of their last 7 games in all competitions, moving into fifth in the English Premier League standings, yet fans are still not convinced by manager Louis Van Gaal.

However, the Red Devils faithful calling for the Dutchman’s sacking may be in good mood on Friday, as Spanish radio Cardena Cope claims that Van Gaal could be axed as early as after Sunday’s clash with Chelsea.

As revealed by well-respected Spanish journalist John Carlin, the former Netherlands national team manager could be cut by the 20-time champions should they suffer a huge defeat away to the Blues this weekend.

And who is it that may replace the 64-year-old? No other than former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who has long been linked with the Old Trafford managerial role since being sacked by Roman Abramovich.

According to John Carlin, Man United want to show Van Gaal respect, but this could all change after the Chelsea game

Carlin tips Jose Mourinho as the man to succeed the Dutch tactician

"A good number of Man United fans would see Mourinho with good eyes, but opinion is divided"

Appointing the Portuguese boss would likely please the Manchester United fans, as many took to Twitter to demand Ed Woodward hire The Special One shortly after Pep Guardiola’s Man City move was confirmed.

Admit it. We all want Mourinho to join Man United ASAP! http://bit.ly/LSTVEPL

Of course it remains yet to be seen whether this occurs; however, El Confidencial do claim that Mourinho has already signed an agreement to take over Man United, as per a “well-informed source” in Portugal.

Carlin, though, insists that the likely outcome is that Van Gaal remains on-board for the remainder of the season before making way for Jose.
