Even before they digest the reality of losing their grip at the top of the Premier League table to Leicester City, Arsenal fans would be sad to realize that their star Mesut Ozil is no longer the King of Assists in Europe.

After creating 16 assists for the Gunners this season, the German playmaker seemed to have set his foot off the pedal at a time when he was on course to break Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in 2002/03. Ozil’s form for Arsene Wenger’s side has been drowning in his last four games, consequently allowing Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan to take charge of the chart with 17 assists in all competitions this season. According to Opta, the Gunners have also failed to score a goal in their last three Premier League outings for the first time since February 2009.

Here is a list of footballers with the most assists in all competitions this season, as of February 4, 2015:

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Borussia Dortmund- 17

Neymar Jr – Barcelona- 16

Mesut Ozil – Arsenal- 16

Kevin De Bruyne- Manchester City - 12

Angel Di Maria – Paris Saint-Germain- 12

Luis Suarez – Barcelona- 11

Lorenzo Insigne – Napoli- 11

Raffael – Borussia Monchengladbach- 11

Gerard Deulofeu – Everton FC- 11

Roberto Soldado – Tottenham Hotspur- 11

Unlike Ozil, Mkhitaryan has not only created nine assists in the Bundesliga this season, but also provided eight more in other cup competitions for Thomas Tuchel’s side. On the other hand, all of Ozil’s assists have been provided in the Premier League this season.

Mkhitaryan has provided six assist in the Europa League, two in DFB-Pokal, and nine in the German league this season.Mkhitaryan in action for Borussia Dortmund However, despite failing to provide a single assist in 2016, which is his longest run without an assist this season, the former Real Madrid man could turn things around when the Gunners visit the Dean Court to face AFC Bournemouth in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday.
