The defender being lined up to replace John Terry could snub the Blues in favor of a stay in northwest England.

With Chelsea captain John Terry tipped with a Stamford Bridge exit this summer when his deal expires, after spending 21 years with the club, the Blues are expected to go on the market for his successor.

Raphael Varane was rumored to be a candidate, alongside Everton’s John Stones; however,  it is the Toffees center-back who appears likely to become a target for the reigning English Premier League champions, given his knowledge of the league and excelling performance.

Chelsea made several failed attempts to land Stones in last summer’s transfer window, but it will come as no surprise if Roman Abramovich’s side reignites their interest in 21-year-old next summer.

However, recent reports claim that Chelsea may once again miss out on the center-back, this time to a rival club. According to The Times, the player himself favors a move to Manchester, as he is keen on remaining in northwest should he leave Everton.

John Stones, Manchester City, Everton, English Premier League

Currently plying his trade in Goodison Park, a move to either City or United won’t prove too far for Stones geographically, but a switch to London would require packing his bags and heading south.

Although the player will not rule out a move south, or even abroad – there is interest from Barca and Real Madrid – a Red Devils or Citizens transfer will keep him close to his Yorkshire-based family.

Pellegrini: Man City players not looking to far into the future, despite Guardiola's imminent arrival

This transfer news comes as the Daily Mail claim that Man City leads the race to land the Everton star, as Pep Guardiola is already hard at work to reshuffle the Citizens’ back-four upon in time for next season.
