When German playmaker Mesut Ozil was announced to have signed for Arsenal, fans were exuberant, on cloud nine over seeing the then Real Madrid midfielder in a Gunners jersey.
However, there remains a huge possibility that the 2014 World Cup winner could return to Santiago Bernabeu.
Whistle blowing website Football Leaks, following their trend of revealing some of the biggest names in world football’s contracts, posted details of Mesut Ozil’s deal on their website.
The website has removed the lid on a buy-back clause in the deal between Arsenal and Los Blancos for the 27-year-old, handing the Liga BBVA giants the right to 48 hours to either match or better another club’s offer for the German should Wenger choose to cash in on him.
Furthermore, the 10-time Champions League winners secured a sell-on clause which guarantees Real Madrid 33% of the profit from the selling fee should the Gunners choose to sell Ozil to another Spanish club for more than £38m.
One interesting aspect that Football Leaks revealed in regards to Mesut Ozil’s contract is that he cost the north London giants far less than initially reported.
Ozil, who has helped the Gunners to two FA Cup wins since arriving at the Emirates in 2013, cost the club £36m, not the £42.5m reported by Arsenal.
