Arsenal fans who were hoping to see the Gunners beat Chelsea and return to the top of the English Premier League table saw their hopes dashed after the north London giants were reduced to 10 men after only 18 minutes.
German center-back Per Mertesacker appeared to have brought down striker Diego Costa just as the Spaniard looked destined for a one-on-one situation with Cech, leading to Mark Clattenburg reaching for his pocket for a straight red.
However, replays of Mertesacker’s tackle on Costa showed that there was in fact very little contact, if any, before the 27-year-old fell to the floor.

After the former Atletico Madrid goalscorer's antics in the previous encounter between the London giants, one which similarly ended in a sending off for one of Wenger's boys, Gooners were not too pleased at the very least to see Costa's actions.
