The top 20 richest football clubs in the world for the year 2014 to 2015 have been revealed.

The Deloitte Money League has released a list of the top 20 richest clubs in the world in 2014/2015. Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid are top of the list, followed by their bitter rivals FC Barcelona, while Premier League giants Manchester United come third.

Los Blancos have been on top of the Money League list for the 11th consecutive season as the world’s leading revenue-generating football club despite their lack of silverware last season. The Santiago Bernabeu side gets most of its revenue from ticket sales, shirt sponsorship deals with Emirates and their long-term sponsorship deal with Adidas. They also gathered additional revenue through their sponsorship agreement with Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company to expand the club’s museum.

On the other hand, their perennial rival FC Barcelona’s revenue rose by 18% in 2015, which was the club’s largest ever revenue increase on a single year, according to the report. Despite the achievement, they still come second to Madrid. The club’s financial success was widely attributed to their performance during the 2014/2015 season under manager Luis Enrique. The Catalans won the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, UEFA Champion League and the FIFA Club World Cup thanks to their deadly attacking trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar, who netted 122 goals amongst themselves.

The Blaugrana also got additional financial support from, Qatar Airways, Beko and Telefonica, including ticket sales. Plans are underway to expand Camp Nou’s capacity from 99,354 to 105,000, a move that would increase the revenue collected from ticket sales.

Despite failing to win a trophy ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, Manchester United are the third-richest club in the world. The English club was second in the Money League last season, but the absence of European football resulted to their demotion. Lack of European football also led to the decrease in both match day and broadcasting revenues. However, the Red Devils still enjoyed financial support from major sponsors such as General Motors, Chevrolet, Sina Sports, AON and Adidas.
