Lionel Messi was on target for the Catalans in the 7th minute of the game through a penalty kick. Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz brought down Luis Suarez in the box, and was immediately shown the red card in the 5th minute of the game. Leo stepped up and calmly converted it into the net to hand the hosts an early lead.
Barca are facing Athletic Bilbao for the fourth time this season, and the two sides still have two more meetings in the Copa del Rey.
Neymar and Rakitic also scored a goal each as Suarez summed up the perfect performance with a hat trick to give the hosts a 6-0 victory over their visitors at the Camp Nou.
