The center back has been involved in a number of controversies this season after voicing his thoughts about other teams on social media.

Barcelona's center back Gerard Pique could be sanctioned after being involved in a number of controversies in the ongoing La Liga season.

The outspoken defender will be investigated by Spain's Football Federation Anti-Violence Comission, given that some of his tweets could be "too offensive" for some parties to handle.

The news broke out today, following the Round of 16 match between Espanyol and Barcelona, in which Espanyol's supporters held a couple of banners replying to Pique's taunts about being a "minority" in Catalunya. Furthermore, he posted a video in his Twitter feed making fun of Los Periquitos' supporters chanting against him.

During Wednesday's match, one of those banners mentioned his wife, Colombian singer Shakira, and the other one mentioned her former boyfriend, Antonio de la Rúa. One of them claimed that the Colombian performer "belonged to all of them" and the one mentioning her ex-boyfriend indicated De La Rúa "started things off", in clear reference to his statements against Real Madrid during Barça's title celebrations.

Back in December, Piqué was involved in another controversy when he posted a number of laughing emoticons after Real Madrid's elimination from the Copa del Rey for starting Russian defender Denis Cheryshev. Later that month, Piqué got into a heated argument with La Roja team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa, calling him "a training cone" during a post-match interview.

The Anti-Violence Comission will investigate if Pique's tweets lead to violence, particularly those against other team's supporters. The player could face a match ban if the board determines his actions generate violence, but that will be sorted out in the upcoming days.
