Monday’s gala treated us to what will surely be a selfie of the year contender.

2016 may have just begun, but it appears that the 2015 Ballon d’Or gala has already treated us to what can surely be described as a selfie of the year contender.

In 2013, United States president Barack Obama made the headlines after grabbing a selfie with British and Danish Prime Ministers David Cameron and Helle Thorning Schmidt.

The following year was the year of then Oscar host Ellen Degeneres, who broke Twitter by grabbing a selfie with some of the biggest movie stars on the planet during the award show, which was the viral pic of 2014.

Fast forward two years later, and James Nesbitt looks to this the crown. Hosting the 2015 Ballon d’Or gala, which saw Lionel Messi walk away with the top prize for a record fifth time in his career, the northern Irish comedian grabbed one epic selfie during the show.

Who made it in the pic? Female footballer of the year Carli Lloyd, the 2015 Women’s World Cup Golden Boot winner Celia Sasic, and four-time Golden Shoe recipient Cristiano Ronaldo all featured, with Brazilian sensation Neymar watching on, but no biggie.

The 30-year-old Real Madrid superstar had to work hard to get in the shot, though. Watch in the video below.
