When a single goal ends two slumps, celebrations are almost a certainty. When that goal helps its scorer to reach the second spot of the all-time goal scoring list in the Premier League, there's nothing left to say.
Today, Wayne Rooney took matters into his own hands to give Manchester United its first win in the past eight outings, managing to end his goal scoring drought in the process.
Anthony Martial scored during the second half's opening moments, only to have their lead cancelled Gylfi Sigurdsson. As the game came to a close, Rooney worked his way into Swansea's box to find a cross by Anthony Martial, sending the ball into the back of the net with a left foot back heel flick. Even if goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski came close to equalizing the match with a late header, Rooney's antics and skills gave LVG & Co. some room to breathe, keeping the race for the fourth place in the EPL open.
Rooney's 188th goal secured him the second place in the all-time scoring charts for both the EPL and Manchester United. He is now 72 goals away of equalizing Alan Shearer as the EPL's all-time leader, while he is just 12 goals shy of breaking Sir Bobby Charlton's record with Manchester United.
Here's what fans had to say about his goal.
That Rooney's goal was pure brilliance... like they say "Form is temporary, Class is permanent"
