Wenger compares the German playmaker to Arsenal’s Dutch legend after his master class display vs Bournemouth.

Mesut Ozil left everyone drooling after his master class display in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth, on Monday.

After losing 4-0 to Southampton on Boxing Day, the Gunners needed to bounce back in order to avoid further setback to their title hopes, and did exactly so thanks to the German playmaker.

The 27-year-old set up the first goal before doubling the north London giants’ lead in the second half en route to their 2-0 win, taking his tally in the English Premier League to 3 goals and 16 assists.

The former Real Madrid ace also created 9 goalscoring chances, the most by a player in a single game this season.

And with 18 games remaining, Mesut is 4 assists away from the Premier League record of 20 in a single season, held by Thierry Henry.

All of this had boss Arsene Wenger full of praise for his £42.4m signing, drawing comparison between him and the club’s Dutch legend Dennis Bergkamp.

“Is he the best player in the league? Look at his numbers. They speak for themselves. He is the complete player," Le Prof said.

“Mesut is certainly one of the best in Europe. In his position, he is sensational.

“He has remarkable technical ability and I enjoy the timing of his passes. To always get that right is not easy because the decisions on the pitch are made so quickly.

“I don’t like to make comparisons but he reminds me of Dennis Bergkamp.

“Dennis was more of a goalscorer and Mesut more of a creator but now becomes a scorer as well so they are really comparable.

“He was the focal point of our team because we had a new midfield and he’s a guy who gives you confidence.

“I have seen many good games from him this season and now he is convincing everyone he is not just a very talented player but is also working hard for the team and adding goals to his assists.

“You have to give me credit for that because I was always defending him even when people were skeptical.”
