The English striker also referred to his performances this season, taking full responsibility for his lack of contribution.

"I know that I have not been playing well and I'm working hard to try and improve and do my best for the team. It's not nice when yore getting criticised after every game. It's tough for the players to deal with but we are proud to play for Manchester United - and when it's not going right its hard to take," Rooney added.

"Sometimes there's a lot of stuff written that is hard for our families to take. I can take criticism personally, but there are people in my family that are not used to it and its tough for them. But, that is part of being a football player these days," the player concluded.
