The Premier League giants are looking for a possible replacement for lead striker Diego Costa, who has been blunt in front of goal this season.

Luis Van Gaal has always admired the Germany international but his attempts to sign him last summer failed miserably. Chelsea are also facing a similar crisis as United, with their key strikers Falcao and Diego Costa firing blanks in front of goal.

The Daily Mirror claims that the World Cup winner has been approached by representatives of the Blues over a possible switch from the Allianz Arena.

This is not the first time Jose Mourinho is hijacking Man United’s transfer target; last summer, the Portuguese tactician diverted Pedro’s move from Camp Nou to the Stamford Bridge on the 11th hour, yet initially, the Spaniard had been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Costa has high chances of leaving the West London club in the summer after humiliating Mourinho last Sunday by throwing his bib when he was bunched against Spurs.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich hero Lothar Mathaus believes that Muller will be more successful if he joins Barcelona rather than Chelsea or Manchester United. In an interview with Bild, the 54-year-old former West Germany player said:

“He (Muller) does not need Manchester United or Chelsea.’’

"Barcelona perhaps could use him, but I do not know whether he can deal with their game.’’

"My opinion is that he should definitely stay at Bayern for his lifetime.’’

He added:

“He started his professional career at Bayern and I think he should end his career here.’’

"He does not need any new challenge as he is always playing at the highest level every year at Bayern.”

The 26-year-old has scored 13 goals for Bayern this season in the Bundesliga in 14 appearances, and provided three assits, according to Squawka.
