According to a report by MARCA, the former Red Devils boss looks to use his close relationship with the Portuguese ace to lure him back to Old Trafford.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent recently ruling out a Real Madrid exit, rumors continue to link the former Manchester United winger with a return to Old Trafford.

"It is impossible (for Ronaldo to move out of Spain). He will end his career at Real Madrid," said Jorge Mendes, as he looked to end speculation of a Santiago Bernabeu, one which the Portuguese ace himself played a role in fueling.

Nonetheless, Spanish outlet MARCA report that the Red Devils are working hard to lure the 30-year-old attacker to the Theatre of Dreams, and that the English giants have deployed former boss Sir Alex Ferguson to execute the player’s return.

The legendary Scottish manager has a very close relationship with the three-time Ballon d’Or winner, having brought him to England from Portugal back in 2003.

Cristiano has several times before hailed Sir Alex Ferguson not only as a mentor, but a father figure, with Ronaldo professing that the 73-year-old is "my friend, my family, with me for the rest of my life" during the premiere of his movie.

This bond between player and former manager is what Louis van Gaal and Co. look to capitalize on, with acquiring the Blancos attacker’s services in mind.

Interestingly, the piece by MARCA does not look at this issue as whether Ronaldo will leave or not, but rather where his next destination will be.

Ronaldo reportedly handed president Florentino Perez an ultimatum on Rafael Benitez in the wake of Saturday's Clasico defeat, claiming either the Spanish tactician or he will leave.

However, with the Real Madrid president publicly backing the former Napoli boss, Cristiano may be the one to head for the door, though talks of an exit preceded this latest fallout with Rafa.

According to the report, Les Merengues are keen on getting rid of their number 7, as they look to make way for the potential arrival of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.

PSG could pose a threat to Man United in the race to land Ronaldo, though, despite his affiliation with the club and their fan base, as the Ligue 1 giants, with their financial strength, are willing to offer €120m for the four-time Golden Boot winner.
