Is this the come-and-get-me plea Man United have been waiting for?

Despite having only joined Real Madrid in 2013, the world’s most expensive player Gareth Bale could already be set for a return to the English Premier League.

This is after the player himself, speaking after Saturday’s 4-0 Clasico defeat to Barcelona, refused to rule out a return to the English top-flight.

This will come as a boost to Manchester United, rumored favorites to land the Welsh ace should he depart from Santiago Bernabeu, with the Red Devils having chased the 26-year-old throughout January up until the summer transfer window.

The former Tottenham superstar, whose current deal with Los Blancos runs until 2019, did however stress his commitment to the 10-time Champions League winners, his gratitude towards boss Rafael Benitez, and his optimism for this season.

"My plan when I first started playing football was to try to reach the pinnacle – and Real Madrid is the pinnacle," said Bale.

"Now I’m here, I want to win trophies and titles, and just do the best I can for my career.

"I will never say never when it comes to going back to the Premier League, because you don’t know what the future holds. But I am enjoying my time here. I am very happy.

"I had conversations with Rafa in the summer and I am delighted about where I am going to be playing this season.

"I like the role behind the striker and feel that’s my position. I can drift into areas, find the space and, when I get the ball, I can attack. It’s my best position – and I think this year is going to be a great season."

British tabloid The Sun has reported, in the wake of Saturday’s embarrassing loss to the Blaugrana, that Van Gaal’s side have been put on alert and may take advantage of Real Madrid’s misfortunes in order to lure Bale to Old Trafford.

It should be noted that the 20-time English Premier League champions were in the race for Bale’s signature prior to his Santiago Bernabeu switch.
