Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas Defends ‘Selfish’ Cristiano Ronaldo, Praises Mourinho
Sara Carbonero branded Cristiano Ronaldo as a selfish player, but boyfriend Casillas thinks differently. Like Coach Mourinho, Real Madrid’s CR7 is ‘fantastic', he says…
On Thursday afternoon, the Real Madrid captain attended a promotional event in the Spanish capital. Iker Casillas had to photo-shoot for a new Phillips shaver as his girlfriend Sara Carbonero had also been busy doing exactly the same thing on Wednesday, but for Pantene.
The goalkeeper also had time to share his views with the media concerning a few points related to his club, Real Madrid. As he commentated on the team’s coach, Jose Mourinho, Casillas declared:
“[Jose] Mourinho is open to anything. He knows what he wants and I think that he’s fantastic. Our aim is to have a good season.
“We’ve got a good relationship together. He has coached some great teams and some great players. And I guess he’s been very successful in doing so.”
Just as Iker Casillas and his girlfriend Sara Carbonero each attended a different promotional even in midweek, so did their opinion on Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo diverged. Sports journalist Sara Carbonero had described Cristiano Ronaldo as a “selfish” player “selfish and an individualist on the pitch”.
However, Iker Casillas defended his Real Madrid team mate as he explained:
“Cristiano Ronaldo is a fantastic person. He is a great team mate. We both share the desire and ambition of playing hard and winning matches.
“He is not selfish at all. All he wants is to score a lot of goals.”
Last season, Cristiano Ronaldo finished second with 26 goals behind Real Madrid’s top scorer Gonzalo Higuain. He was also third in the overall Spanish La Liga Top Scorers Chart.
This season, Ronaldo has netted twice in the league like a host of other players as the race for the Pichichi promises to be tighter this term. In the meantime, fans of Iker Casillas will hope that differences between the player and his girlfriend don’t eventually create damaging effect at Real Madrid.
