It will be the first time that the tournament will be hosted outside South America. The tournament will be played from June 3-26, 2016.

The rumours that the Copa America Centenario would not be played in the United States are starting to vanish as CONCACAF and CONMEBOL have announced the then cities that will host this tournament next summer. For the first time in 100 years, it will be played outside of CONMEBOL territory hoping for a larger audience and bigger revenue.

The competition will run from June 3 to the 26th with the final most likely to be played in East Rutherford, New Jersey at MetLife Stadium, the home of the New York Giants. There were 24 candidates in the shortlist of cities that could host this tournament, which was narrowed down to the ten that will be used. 

The Organizing Committee made the official announcement on Thursday

The cities and their respective stadiums are Boston (Gillette Stadium), Chicago (Soldier Field), Houston (NRG Stadium), Los Angeles (Rose Bowl), New York (MetLife Stadium), Orlando (Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), Phoenix (University of Phoenix Stadium), San Francisco (Levi's Stadium) and Seattle (CenturyLink Field). Each venue is expected to host at least three games. 

In order to be elegible to host the tournament, the venues that were set as candidates needed to have a capacity of over 60,000. Eight of these stadiums operate to full capacity every two weeks when the national Football League (NFL) is in action. They are great pieces of infrestructure capable of accomodating large crowsds.

There will be ten CONMEBOL teams participating in this edition of the tournament as well as six from CONCACAF. The first edition of the Copa America was hosted by Argentina. Ever since then, Uruguay has won the most titles with 15. During the 1916 edition, only four teams participated and only two cities were used.
