The 19-year-old striker suffered a foot injury in Tuesday's emotional friendly between England and France.

Manchester United will be made to sweat over the fitness of star striker Anthony Martial after the French forward picked up a foot injury in Tuesday’s friendly with England.

Martial, who traveled to Wembley with his national side for the post-Paris attacks tie, played for 67 minutes before being replaced by Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann in the 2-0 defeat.

The former Monaco youngster was left in excruciating discomfort after receiving “a kick” in the penalty box, as he was seen leaving the stadium on crutches, with bandage around his left foot.

Word is yet to be heard from the Man United camp on the severity of his injury, but the player is expected to undergo a scan upon returning to the Red Devils base on Wednesday to determine the extent.

Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps, however, does not believe that Martial’s injury was anything serious, despite admitting that the player was in extreme pain.

“He was in quite a bit of pain,” stated the France boss.

“He got a kick in the penalty area. I think it’s just a knock rather than anything else to the top of his foot.”

The 19-year-old, who is Man United’s second highest scorer this season in the English Premier League, has become an indispensable player to Louis Van Gaal since signing in the summer for £36m.

The club and fans alike will be hoping to avoid seeing a lengthy spell on the sidelines for Martial; however, this nightmare could come true, with talk on social media claiming that the Frenchman will be out for the entire season, citing Sun as the source.

Manchester United's next game, once the international break comes to an end, will be a trip to Watford, on Saturday.
