Brazil national team are set for a relatively easy home match against Peru in a match that will have a huge influence on the teams that will make it to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

In the earlier South American derby piting the two soccer giants Argentina and Brazil, Ezequiel Lavezzi put the home side ahead in the first half before Lucas Lima equalized for the visitors in the 58th minute. However, the officials had to postpone the game for 24 hours due to heavy rains in Buenos Aires.

Bayern Munich’s wonder-kid Douglas Costa breathed life into Brazil’s squad after Argentina had dominated the first half of the game, when he was introduced as a substitute to replace Ricardo Oliveira. However, Argentina played without star players Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Carloz Tevez due to injury. Consequently, Angel Di Maria, Lavezzi and Gonzalo Higuain led the attack.

Brazil’s next opponents, Peru, come into this fixture as the underdogs but hope to pull a surprise win against the five-team FIFA World Cup winners. Peru registered their first win in the qualifiers when they beat Paraguay 1-0 after a superb goal from Jefferson Farfan. This was the first goal that Paraguay have conceded in the qualifiers.

The Los Incas had lost their first two opening games and needed a win at home to revive their hopes of making it through the qualifiers. Coach Ricardo Gareca fielded a strong four-man attack that included the likes of Jordy Reyna, Claudio Pizzaro, Paolo Guerrero and Farfan. Brazil is present to field a star-studded squad for maximum points, which includes the likes of Neymar, who had a poor game against Argentina. Peru will rely on their revived hopes of qualifying for the World Cup as the perfect inspiration when they travel away from home to face the Samba boys.
