In the eyes of the Portuguese ace, he is superior to Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.

The Messi vs Ronaldo debate tends to heat up as El Clasico grows closer, and with the clash between La Liga’s two biggest clubs less than three weeks away, the Real Madrid ace has further ignited the argument.

Speaking in an interview conducted back in August, Cristiano, whose documentary is due to be released on November 9, claims that he believes he is the best in the world.

País (per MARCA) revealed portions of the 30-year-old superstar’s interview in which he admitted that he believes he is better than Barca rival Lionel Messi.

The former Man United winger said:

"It doesn't bother me. I've been at the top of my game for the last eight years. Name another player who has. The difference between being number one or two is in the details, like whether or not you win trophies. You might think that Messi is the best, but I think I am."

Ballon d’Or season is not far away, and with the 2015 ceremony fast approaching, much talk has been circulating as to who will clinch the prize.

Although competition for the award is stiff this time around, it’s highly expected to die down to a two-horse race between Messi and Ronaldo.

The Argentine attacker boasts a good case, having won the treble last season, and guiding his national side to the Copa America final, which they lost on penalties.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, went trophy-less with Los Blancos, but did achieve several individual feats, including a record-breaking 4th European Golden Boot and the title of Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer, just to name a few.

In the interview, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner also opened up about his personal life, revealing that he is a reserved man, saying:

"I'm not a complete loner, but I was born this way. My father was the same. Yes, I have friends in football and away from the game, but I only have four or five close friends."
