The Real Madrid superstar became the 1st player in the award's 47 year history to win the accolade four times.

On Tuesday, a beaming Cristiano Ronaldo thanked the millions of Les Merengues fans as he scooped up the 2014-15 Golden Boot award for the second consecutive year, the fourth time in his career.

The Portuguese superstar’s whopping 48 goals in 35 games in last season’s La Liga campaign saw him edge out rival Lionel Messi, who only managed 43 strikes, as the 30-year-old became the first player in the trophy’s 47-year history to clinch it four times.

His mother, brother, and Los Blancos president Florentino Perez, who thanked the three-time Ballon d'Or winner "one behalf of all the Madridistas", were at show to see the former Man United ace pick up the latest individual prize in his illustrious career.

Cristiano, who is now Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Spanish Primera Division, took to Facebook shortly afterward to promise his legion of supporters more accolades and trophies in the years to come, saying:

"What a special moment in my professional life!" Ronaldo said on his official Facebook page.

"Winning four Golden Boots is a privilege for me and I'll keep challenging myself because I want to do better every time and I want to keep chasing for more records.

"I have to thank everyone in Real Madrid that made this possible and we want to keep winning more titles and more trophies. Thank you everyone."

Ronaldo, despite being one of the deadliest attackers in football, is lagging behind in this season’s Golden Boot race.

Only 7 games into the Spanish Primera Division, the Portugal captain (5) trails only team-mate Karim Benzema (6) in the Liga BBVA goalscoring charts, but is five goals behind European Golden Boot leaders Robert Lewandowski and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who lead the pack with 10 goals each.

Don't be to shocked if Ronaldo surpasses everyone come the end of the season, however.
