One of the most controversial meetings in this UEFA Champions League edition featured Iker Casillas and José Mourinho, and the Spanish goalkeeper won the first round. Casillas' display was key for his side to defeat Chelsea at Estadio Do Dragao, handing the Blues their first loss of this CL edition.
André André scored the game's first goal, but Willian chipped in a free kick that Casillas was unable to clear. When the second half was well underway, Maicon scored the second goal of the evening for The Dragons, forcing Mourinho's men to add pressure to their opponent's defense. After Diego Costa hit the bar with a well-placed shot, Casillas & Co. prevailed to win their first game of the tournament, complicating things for the Premier League champions.
Casillas even stated he could've done more to stop Willian's shot.
"Surely I could have stopped it, but it was a tricky shot. My visibility was not the best, but that's no excuse. I could barely see the ball, but it was my responsibilty. Fortunately, we were able to win," the shot-stopper stated.
Here's how fans embraced Casillas' performance against his former "mentor".
