Southampton
Ronald Koeman's side has been able to keep a clean sheet in the most recent three games, although two of those three games ended up 0-0. Whatever chances the Saints have of shocking United will depend on Sadio Mane's performance, with a little help from Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic, the team's scoring leaders with two goals each.
Fraser Forster, Florin Gardos and Ryan Bertrand are all confirmed absences for the Saints, while there is a slight possibility for Koeman to have Jordy Clasie available for the first time this season.
Man United
The current third placed team in the Premier League had a complicated week after defeating Liverpool last Saturday. Van Gaal's side lost their first Champions League group stage game against PSV Eindhoven, with some defensive mistakes shown during that outing. After starting the season with three consecutive clean sheets, Van Gaal's crew has not been able to repeat those performances recently, giving the Dutch coach more than a headache.
While Phil Jones came back to the team's training sessions this week, his chances of starting the game aren't that good. The only confirmed absence is that of Luke Shaw, who broke his leg during Tuesday's game against PSV. Wayne Rooney is expected to perform after missing out United's two most recent games, but his position on the pitch is yet to be determined, given Anthony Martial's successful debut last week.
