There were a lot of talking points after the Group A fixtures on the 3rd of September as Netherlands suffered a defeat at the hands of Iceland whereas Turkey were held by Latvia.

Danny Blind's first game in-charge of the Dutch national side began on a disappointing note as Sigurðsson's solitary goal of the match gave Iceland the victory and safeguarded their top spot. To make matters worse for the Oranje, newly appointed captain Arjen Robben suffered an injury and had to be withdrawn early in the match. Whereas defender Martins Indi received his marching orders and will thus be unavailable for crucial fixtures ahead.

Turkey on the other hand were presented with a glorious opportunity to leapfrog their opponents on Sunday to the third spot but blew their chances.  Inan gave them the lead in the 77th minute and it seemed as if things would go Turkey's way until Sabala scored in injury time to ensure that both sides shared points.

Sunday's tie is thus a crucial one and could go ahead to decide which team finishes third in the group. The third best side in the group stages will earn an automatic qualification to the Euro 2016 with the remaining eight sides to compete in play-offs.

Turkey and Netherlands will be hoping to achieve just that with the likes of Iceland and Czech republic far ahead of them. Turkey are currently on nine points and sit one place below third placed Netherlands who have ten points from seven games.

Iceland lead the group with 18 points whereas second placed Czech Republic recorded a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan which leaves them with 16 points from seven games.

The reverse fixture between the two sides played at Amsterdam ArenA in March last year ended in a 1-1 draw. Netherlands began the match on a disappointing run having already lost two of their first four qualifying matches. Yilmaz gave the hosts something to worry about after scoring in the 37th minute. The Dutch had a few chances from the onwards but failed to materialise.

It took an injury time deflected goal from Huntelaar to salvage something out of the match as it finished 1-1 after full time.
