Los Blancos wrote up a clause to avoid seeing the Spaniard sign a new deal at Old Trafford, but are still worried of losing the goalkeeper for good.

With the 2015 summer transfer window closed, the biggest talking point was the collapse of David De Gea’s Real Madrid transfer.

Los Blancos had been chasing after the Spanish custodian throughout the summer, and appeared to have succeeded in their attempts to land the 24-year-old, with both teams agreeing a player-plus-cash deal worth £29m plus Keylor Navas.

However, due to missing paperwork, the move failed to materialize, sparking a war-of-words between United and Real Madrid as to who exactly was at fault for the blunder.

Now, Spanish publication MARCA report, as tweeted by Real Madrid stats Twitter account SocialRMadrid, Les Merengues are afraid that having seen his dream move to the Bernabeu burst in flame, De Gea might have a turn off heart and finally put pen-to-paper on a contract extension at Old Trafford.

However, the very same news outlet also report that Real Madrid have taken precise measures to assure that De Gea does not sign a new deal with the Red Devils.

According to MARCA, the 10-time Champions League winner inserted a clause in an agreement reached with the goalkeeper that should his Liga BBVA move collapse; Real Madrid must still pay the Spaniard the earnings he would have made in Madrid for the 2015-16 season.

This clause is apparently a “fail-safe” to thwart the former Atletico Madrid man from going ahead with a contract renewal at Manchester.

De Gea will only be eligible to pick up this pay-out, believed to be around €5m, once he officially becomes a Galacticos. With the player’s current contract ending next year, the custodian will be fee to negotiate with Real Madrid in January.

One thing, however, that may work in Man United’s favor is that even though Los Blancos are offering De Gea more that what he makes in England, the 20-time Premier League champions’ ne proposed deal would see the Spaniard earn far more than €5m.
