John Stones from Everton was Chelsea's first choice but the deal did not go through. He was brought in to help Chelsea's defensive problems.

Chelsea has received nine goals in the first four games of the Premier League season so Jose Mourinho has decided to sign Papy Djilobodji from Nantes. The central defender was one of the best players of the French side over the past two seasons and will now join the Blues for the next four years.

There are only estimates about how much the deal is worth

Djilobodji signed with Nantes when they were still a Ligue 2 team in 2010. A couple of years later, Nantes reached the top flight and has stayed there since. His great performances with Nantes earned him a spot in the national team for Senegal during the African Cup of Nations earlier this year, starting in two games.

Chelsea welcomes their newest signing

'I'm very happy to sign for a big club like Chelsea and I want to do my best to help the team win titles. I want to thank the club for giving me this opportunity," the 26-year old player said.

He started his career in Senegal playing for ASC Saloum. It was until 2009 when he moved to France and six years later he has landed in one of the best clubs in England. Some of his most notable characteristics are his physical presence, his quickness and being a powerful player around the field.

He has something to brag about against other Chelsea defenders

John Stones had been the go-to option for Chelsea when Jose Mourinho was asking for a defender. With the negotiation being rebuffed a few times, the Blues moved on to look for the 1.94-meter tall player from Nantes. After player 183 games for the French-side, where he scored nine goals and received 35 yellow cards, Djilobodji is taking his chance to move on.

Things have not looked pretty for Chelsea at the beginning of the season
