Gio had one goal and one assist in Galaxy's victory against Seattle. Pirlo and Villa played the full game but could not make a difference.

Giovanni dos Santos has scored the goal that he was dreaming of in his Major League Soccer debut against the Seattle Sounders. The Mexican star had already scored halfway through the week but today in his first MLS game he did it again after Bruce Arena had given him the opportunity to start the game.

Gio has faced a lot of criticism for moving to the MLS at age 25. He had made a big career with Barcelona, Villarreal, Spurs and other European clubs before moving to Los Angeles. The hispanic fanbase, the city and the fact that they had just won the championship last season, motivated the striker to join the club.

Now he plays alongside Robbie Keane, who used to play for Tottenham, just like Gio. Before the Mexican arrived, the eyes of the team were set on Gerrard. Now, the attention seems to have shifted slightly to Gio, who just won the Gold Cup with Mexico over the summer.

In the first 13 minutes of the game, the score was already 1-1 but it did not move until after halftime. In the 47th minute Gio gave the ball to Keane who with a right-footed shot sent the ball to the back of the net on the bottom left corner. Minutes later, it was Keane who gave the assist to Dos Santos for him to score his first MLS goal.

It was a perfect day for Giovanni in what will be his home for the next four years. The Mexican striker already has great memories of the city and will want to keep adding on that. At the same time, he was praised by David Beckham, who used to play for Galaxy, as Landon Donnovan's perfect replacement.

In New York, at the Red Bull Arena, the New York City derby was played. It was a great game but it did not go the way that many people would have expected. With David Villa, Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard lining up for New York City FC, it was the New York Red Bulls who won it 2-0.

21 minutes into the game, the New York Red Bulls got in the scoreboard with a goal from Bradley-Wright-Phillips. While possession was really even on both sides of the ball, the home had twice as much shots on goal (6-3). It wasn't until the second half that Felipe Martins shut down any possibility of an equalizer with NYRB's second goal of the night.

While Villa and Pirlo played the whole game, Lampard was substituted one minute after the second goal to give Patrick Mullins his spot. The visiting team could not respond in what was left of the game and most of the 21,000 fans in attendance left with a smile on their face as their team is on a five-game unbeaten streak.

In the Eastern Conference now the Red Bulls are in second place with 36 points, behind D.C. United. NYFC is in eighth place with 24 points, outside of the playoff spots. In the Western Conference, Gio's team is in second with 40 points after 25 games. Seattle is in sixth with 32 in 24 matches played.
