The match between Cruz Azul and Guadalajara will steal the headlines after both teams lost their first match of the season last week. Here's a detailed guide to Mexican football's games this weekend.

After the first week of action, Liga MX returns with eight games this weekend. During the upcoming matches, Cruz Azul and Guadalajara will have a good amount of fans watching their game, with the clear intention of bouncing back after being handed losses by Morelia (3-0) and Veracruz (2-0) respectively.

Other interesting matches will include Gustavo Matosas' return to Estadio Azteca, after his disappointing performance with Club América. Matosas resigned from coaching Las Águilas this summer after a falling out with Sports VP Ricardo Peláez concerning the team's transfer activity.

Finally, the match between Monterrey and Puebla will be played on October 10th, since Los Rayados are having their "open house party" against Benfica this Sunday. Here's a quick preview of the most interesting matches the second week of Liga MX will offer.

Cruz Azul vs Chivas: Battle between two of Mexico's "Big Four"

"La Máquina" has been a disappointment for their fans during the last 18 years, since the team has not been able to win a League tournament since 1997. Their revamped squad sure looks promising, but fans are still skeptical about the team's chances this year under coach Sergio Bueno. On the other side, Guadalajara needs to add points to their total, since their relegation problems are not over, and another defeat this week would start making their fans -and owner- nervous. With Chivas, Omar Bravo will try to get a little bit closer to the team's all-time goalscoring record. The former Deportivo striker needs four goals to tie Salvador Reyes as the goal scoring king for El Rebaño Sagrado.

Club América vs Atlas: Matosas faces his former pupils

The current CONCACAF Champions League holders need to redeem themselves in front of their home crowd after a baffling 4-2 loss against Puebla last week. Coach Ignacio Ambriz, who's job with Las Águilas will be under constant review by fans and experts, will have Darío Benedetto and Oribe Peralta available, two of the team's leaders and strikers.  Their contribution will be appreciated since the yellow team lacked offensive power during all their pre-season games, and Saturday's match against Atlas will give them a chance to prove it. As for Los Rojinegros, the presence of Gustavo Matosas will be controversial for fans in attendance, since his six-month term with América did not go well at all. Atlas lost their previous match against Querétaro at Estadio Jalisco, where they had to perform without supporters in the stands due to a pitch invasion incident during the recently concluded season.

The most recent match between these teams saw América come from behind against the red-and black side.
