The Italian midfielder is expected to make his debut against Kaká and Orlando City this weekend. He has joined Frank Lampard and David Villa as Designated Players.

The wait for Major League Soccer fans to see their new star in action is over. Andrea Pirlo may not have played an official game already but training with his new team is the first step and that is what he did during New York City FC's Wednesday training session.

Pirlo traveled from Italy to the United States on Tuesday, practiced this Wednesday for the first time with his new club and is expected to be presented by Thursday to media and fans. The Italian midfielder joins Frank Lampard and David Villa as the team's Designated Players of a franchise that is only in its first year.

Pirlo was excited for his new adventure when he left Italy

The Architect has caused high expectations in his new adventure. He won it almost all with Juventus, and came really close to winning the Champions League title this year against Barcelona. His move to the Major League Soccer may mean the end of his career is approaching, but his level of play should not be decreasing.

“Watching him play, I thought God exists because it’s simply embarrassing how good he is…” Gianluigi Buffon, his teammate with Italy and Juventus said.

“He always had the great gift of being able to visualize and anticipate plays before everyone else. His vision, what he can do with the ball, and what he’s able to create make him a true superstar," Roberto Baggio said.

The Italian star had his first practice session on Wednesday

Pirlo is a player known for imprinting his own style and pace in every game he plays. His intelligence is out of this world and he can stay calm even in the biggest stage, something that he remembers helped him win the 2006 World Cup with Italy.

“I don’t feel pressure … I spent the afternoon of Sunday, July 9, 2006 in Berlin sleeping and playing the PlayStation. In the evening, I went out and won the World Cup,” Pirlo wrote in a book titled "I Think, Therefore I Play".

His official debut in a game could be against no other than Kaká and Orlando City at Yankee Stadium this Sunday. The 36-year-old star voided the last year of his contract with Juventus where he won four Serie A titles. His contract with his new team will expire the last day of 2016.
