Serie A and English Premier League giants Roma and Manchester City clashed in a game expected to thrill the fans, unlike the Giallorossi’s disappointing encounter with Real Madrid.
The fans were not let down, however, as two goals from each side meant the match had to be decided by an exciting penalty shootout.
First to grab all the headlines in Tuesday game was summer signing Raheem Sterling, who after being handed his Manchester City debut, took only 237 seconds to score his first goal for the club.
Twitter went into overdrive after the Englishman found the back of the net after just over two minutes of play, as many hailed his as a great acquisition, while other took the opportunity to hush those who predict the £49m signing would be a big-money flop.

I think Sterling will do well at City. £49m was too much but they have a quality player for about 10+ years.

The excitement did not stop there. Miralem Pjanic made it all square shortly afterwards with a beautiful goal in the eighth minute, before goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Adem Ljajic in the second half saw the match enter penalties.
Manuel Pellegrini’s crew looked doomed to lose when Aleksandar Kolarov blasted his spot kick over the bar, handing Luis Garcia’s side the advantage. With Roma needing to score just once to wrap up the win, Joe Hart stepped up to the plate to save the day.
The Three Lions shot-stopper had already scored a wonderful penalty, then went on to stop Roma’s next two to hand his side a hard-fought win.
Social media, of course, hailed the Man City custodian. Check out some of the best tweets below.
