In what could be a premonition of things to come, Lionel Messi reclaimed a trophy that he once won, but had to relinquish to Cristiano Ronaldo. Yesterday, American broadcaster ESPN celebrated its annual gala of awards, known as the ESPYs, and Lionel Messi won the Bes International Athlete award, edging the Portuguese striker in the process.
Messi led Los Blaugranas to a second treble in the 2014-2015 season, scoring 58 goals in all competitions for Barcelona. He ended up five goals away from CR7 in the Pichichi race, but managed to score ten goals in the UEFA Champions League, the same amount the Portuguese ace netted. Finally, he scored one of the best goals of the season against Athletic Bilbao during the Copa del Rey final, being that his fifth goal of the tournament.

Messi's win had an effect -as usual- on Social Media users, who praised the Argentinean who recently played Copa América with La Albiceleste, losing the final match against Chile after a penalty shootout.
Messi (2012 2015) became the 2nd sportsperson ever to win twice the ESPY Award for Best International Athlete, after Usain Bolt (2009 2013).
