Gabriel Torres scored five goals in 2013 to win the award alongside Donovan and Wondolowski. Javier Hernandez won it in 2011 with seven goals

The Gold Cup is known for offering high-scoring games, where the best strikers like to try their aim from almost any place possible. With such a short tournament, the teams have to make the best of their own chances if they want to move on. Here are the top five contenders to win the Golden Boot this year.

1) Gabriel Torres, Panama

If Panama made it to the final in 2013, in great part it was due to the efforts done by Gabriel Torres up front. He scored five goals throughout the competition, including two in their opening game against Mexico. In 15 games with the Colorado Rapids this season, he has scored four goals and delivered two assists.

2) Carlos Vela, Mexico

Carlos Vela separated himself from El Tri following the 2011 Gold Cup. The Mexican striker that has played most of his life in Europe with Arsenal and Real Sociedad, is back to follow Miguel Herrera's orders and lead a team that will have to manage being without Javier Hernandez. Vela has scored 12 goals in 37 games with Mexico. His last two goals came a game against Netherlands at the Amsterdam Arena in 2014.

No Chicharo, no problem, Vela is here for the rescue

3) Chris Wondlowski, United States

The United States attacking unit has been impressive in its last three games. They have beat Netherlands, Germany and Honduras with very solid performances from their strikers. Wondo ended a 15-month drought of not scoring with the National Team with a goal against Honduras. It could give him the confidence needed to be that fearless striker that made him one of the three best in the 2013 Gold Cup.

Wondo can be the go-to man when everyone is concerned about Jozy and Clint Dempsey

4) Joel Campbell, Costa Rica

Costa Rica has learned in recent years that they can play against anyone without fear. They are one of the few teams to have ever beat Mexico at its home turf, and they were the best team of CONCACAF in the World Cup. Campbell was not their leading scorer last summer, but he can definitely look to shine in this Gold Cup as a good performance could launch his European career to find a team where he could have more minutes.

5) Carlos Ruiz, Guatemala

Give the ball to Carlos Ruiz may be a command by Ivan Franco Sopegno to the rest of his players. El Pesacadito is a man that loves to score despite his age (35). He is not only expected to be a top goalscorer for Guatemala, but also a leader by choice and experience. His career has taken him from his homeland all the way to Greece, but is mostly remembered for his time in the MLS, where he scored 87 goals in 168 games.
