Martunis, the 17-year old Indonesian player who survived the 2004 tsunami in a Portugal jersey, signed today his youth academy contract with the Portuguese outfit.

After enduring one of the most complicated experiences a human being could survive, it seems that Indonesian youngster Martunis will finally get a break. Martunis was one of the 2004 Indonesian Tsunami survivors, and he caught the eye of those watching the news by wearing a Portugal's National Team jersey. His story travelled around the world, and the Portuguese National Team agreed to donate 40,000 euros in order to build a house for the boy. The Portuguese Federation invited the boy to Portugal the following year, while CR7 took care of paying for the boy's studies, also solving any complication with the construction of the boy's home.

Having met his idols Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo, the boy's love for football increased. His life took a turn to the good side when he started showing good skills on the pitch, and today, Sporting Lisbon signed him to play for the club's youth academy.

After being unveiled as Sporting's new signing, the boy stated he felt overjoyed by joining the team that helped his role models develop.

"I am incredibly excited by this opportunity. It's great to be here, this club makes my dream possible. Viva Sporting!" Martunis said.
