Will the Chileans be able to win their first Copa América in front of their home crowd? Stats certainly support that idea.

Usually, when a host nation enters the final stages of any tournament, their fans and experts believe they can win it all. When it comes to Copa América games, a number of teams have been able to cover themselves with glory, but some others fail in their attempt to win it all.

Out of the 44 editions of the tournament, host nations have emerged victorious 20 times. Uruguay and Brazil are the countries that have made the most out of their chances of hosting the competition, with Los Charrúas winning the Copa América every time they've played the role as hosts. Uruguay has won the tournament seven times in their country, the latest in 1995. Brazil has hosted four editions, also winning all of them. The previous edition hosted by the Verdeamarelha was in 1989.

When you talk about Chile, La Roja will try to revert history when they enter the pitch of the Estadio Nacional, since they have never been able to play the final match while hosting the tournament. Under the current format, Chile was eliminated in the semi-finals back in 1991, and their previous times hosting the competition ended with other nations winning the trophy. Their best finish in the tournament goes back to the 1955 edition, when they finished second in a league-formatted Copa América.

Here is the list of host nations. In bold, those who have been able to win the tournament in their respective countries.

Will Chile be able to throw stats out of the window and reach their second Copa América final?
