That's six points out of six for Brazil. Andress Alves' late first-half goal was enough to deny ambitious Spain. The latter are left with one more chance to try and reach the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup knockout stages.

It was one of these games where you can only feel sorry for the losing team. Spain toiled all match long and were tactically superior, multiplying their numbers to block the flow of passes between Brazilian winger Cristiane and captain Marta.

However, containing number 9 striker Andressa Alves was always going to be a difficult task. The latter caught the Spaniards' defence a couple of minutes before half-time. How unlucky for defender Jimenez who ran past her keeper to clear the ball off the line! Unfortunately for Spain, it went right back to Andressa Alves who buried it past the goal line.

In the 70th minute, substitute Priscila Borja charged down the right flank and made a cross to Natalia Pablos who failed to find her balance. Pablos was immediately replaced. Six minutes from normal time, Veronica Boquete saw a one-on-one chance fall to her feet but she failed to convert it. More chances followed but the Brazilians held on.

In the end, goals win you games and that's what Spain have surprisingly failed to do at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. They scored only once against Costa Rica despite getting at least 3 or 4 golden chances. Today, they knocked against Brazil's door several times but it never opened. The pressure is upon them to find a way past South Korea on Matchday 3 of the tournament.
