Ivan Rakitic scored the first goal of the UEFA Champions League final after a wonderful team effort from Barcelona. Just after four minutes of playing time, the Croatian midfielder netted the ball following a wonderful pass by Andrés Iniesta.
Rakitic became the fifth Balcanic player to score in a UEFA Champions League/European Champions Cup final. The four previous players to score were Vasovic, Savicevic, Mijatovic and Mandzukic. Furthermore, the Croatian scored the fourth fastest goal in Champions League history, following those of Paolo Maldini, Enrique Mateos and Spanish player Gaizka Mendieta.
