Peru finished in third place during the 2011 edition in Argentina. The team made it's Copa America in 1927.

Ricardo Gareca has all his players ready and at his disposal to prepare a great Copa America in Chile this summer. There were bad news for Peru when the team knew who their rivals for the upcoming Copa America were. None of those teams finished higher than what they did in 2011. Peru finished in third for a fifth time.

The team is currently ranked 63rd and trails other six CONMEBOL teams are ahead of them this time. They were 49th four years ago and now they have experienced a slight drop even from last year when they finished in 53rd. Now the team wants to use South America's most important tournament to move up some spots.

This year Peru has only played one game and it ended in a 1-0  loss against Venezuela. They have one more game against Mexico before the big tournament and their focus is to fix all the mistakes that did not leave the manager and the fans happy by the end of April.

Peru's History in Copa America

Peru had its Copa America debut when they hosted it in 1927. They would win it for the first time twelve years later in 1939. Since then, Peru has hosted this tournament five other times and won it for a second time in 1975. La Bicolor finished has finished in third seven times since their debut. They lost against Uruguay in the semi-final in Argentina four years ago and beat La Vinotinto 4-1 in the game for third place.

Players to Watch

Ricardo Gareca believes he has a good enough team to compete against Neymar or James Rordiguez and their teams. Andre Carrillo was the last man to report to training camp, but his experience playing for Sporting Lisboa and winning the Portugal Cup with the team makes him an important piece in the puzzle. Yordy Reyna, despite only being 21, has been playing in Europe for the past two years feels he is a big part of this team.
